Ashanti - The Declaration

Ashanti
"The Declaration"
June 3rd, 2008

I am utterly shocked.

After her lack-luster debut of "Concrete Rose" (I can't even remember her last single) Ashanti Douglass introduces the world to "The Declaration." Yeah Yeah Yeah - I know what you're thinking, I was thinking the same thing: a whole bunch of "oohhh baby" and "aww baby" and a list of horrible producers and writers but Ms. Douglass has masked the fact that she really can't sing with excellent production and writing. And because I'm under the impression that many of the songs were penned by Ashanti herself, her fans will be pleased.

Ya'll know it's hard for her to kick her habit (get it?) so yes, there are a few tracks that are laced with the word "baby" but that is just the small price that you pay when you pick this album up.

The Declaration has been my R&B saving grace this month because with Usher's release, I thought that that genre was done for it.

Mother is a great ballad dedicated to her mother and Ms. Douglass actually sounds mature and really great (which is a surprise). Good Good, an ode to chicks with that 'good good pu**y' - ya know. So ladies, you all can appreciate that 'get down' song (I know I do, lmao).

Sooooo not a fan of Ashanti and even more not a fan of this song.

Ya'll know I'm a sucker for love songs, I can't help it - I'm a R&B head at heart. And J. Holiday has really grown on me because I swear I played the hell out of "Bed" and I can't even stand to look at his album in my iTune anymore. But dude is pretty great when it comes to ballads and I'm stoked about his next album (if there is even one planned, haven't heard much about it).

Ashanti x Kanye's Work-Out Plan

Wow, chick has really stepped her swag game up something proper! I mean I don't know if it's all the exercise that her and Nelly have been doing between the sheets, but chick done went and lost some weight on us! This disappoints me because I love curvaceous women who don't care about eating the big piece of chicken and laying they asses down for a nap! But it looks like she has been munching on some leaves.... but whatever, I'm on the look out for her. She's been doing aaaiggght in my book but one slip up and her ass is back in the kitchen!

Where is this Ashanti?? The pork chop loving, love handle having, bad ass Ashanti.

Whatev! Nelly is a happy man, I guess.

The Way That I Love You - Ashanti (video)

When I first heard this song I thought it was going to be another man-hating song, and it was. BUT the video concept is crazy and I love the look that Ashanti is giving off.

I've never been an Ashanti fan but I dealt with her because she was around, but this joint has really gave me some new thoughts about her! Well, just a few. But most of all, it was decent.

Ashanti's Cover

I posted the link for her new singe The Way I Love You a few days back (check the New Musak link) but now the cover for her single has emerged.... hence the photo above (^^).

Ashanti is definitely looking much older and mature in this photo, too bad I'm not really loving the pose. I just think it looks crazy. Like why is she resting her head on that mirror?? In the words of Ms. J (from ANTM) "NOT FIERCE!"

All in all.... I'm glad she is back in the studio working and I hope she will reconsider acting as a career. I mean singing isn't her strong-point either, but John Tucker Must Die was just disastrous. (ie. the picture below and that nasty thing attacking her head)

Alright. Alright. I'll leave Ashanti alone. Enjoy your Sunday.
