Ashanti - The Declaration
Ashanti"The Declaration"
June 3rd, 2008
I am utterly shocked.
After her lack-luster debut of "Concrete Rose" (I can't even remember her last single) Ashanti Douglass introduces the world to "The Declaration." Yeah Yeah Yeah - I know what you're thinking, I was thinking the same thing: a whole bunch of "oohhh baby" and "aww baby" and a list of horrible producers and writers but Ms. Douglass has masked the fact that she really can't sing with excellent production and writing. And because I'm under the impression that many of the songs were penned by Ashanti herself, her fans will be pleased.
Ya'll know it's hard for her to kick her habit (get it?) so yes, there are a few tracks that are laced with the word "baby" but that is just the small price that you pay when you pick this album up.
The Declaration has been my R&B saving grace this month because with Usher's release, I thought that that genre was done for it.
Mother is a great ballad dedicated to her mother and Ms. Douglass actually sounds mature and really great (which is a surprise). Good Good, an ode to chicks with that 'good good pu**y' - ya know. So ladies, you all can appreciate that 'get down' song (I know I do, lmao).
